Have you or one of your friends ever been bullied? Have you ever picked on someone else because you thought they were different? Most of us can answer yes to at least one of these questions. Bullying is real and it happens everywhere, especially in sports, which is why this month’s lesson on bullying prevention are so important. Bullying can take the form of teasing a peer, spreading rumors, and any other action that may cause physical or emotional harm. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect. If you or a peer are being bullied, there are a few things that you can do. Talk to a parent, coach, or teacher about the problem. Reach out and offer support if you know someone who is being bullied. Stay calm and stay away. Bullies love getting a reaction so don’t give them one. If you are being bullied, don’t be afraid to speak up. Remember that you are not alone and that there are people who care about you and who will help you get through this.
